Beginning in 1997, 5x8" size Waldale-made private trailer (TL) plates were introduced in the A123B numbering format. A small batch of plates made by Hi-Signs (J001T-K999L) appeared after 2004. Waldale production resumed at K001M and remained unchanged until P001J when the trees and province name were darkened slightly. The solid black bison replaced the blue outline bison in 2013 between V753J and V135K. After 20 years of A123B plates, a new numbering format emerged in 2017. TL plates remain in the 5x8" size and now use the 123AB format. Sticker boxes dropped at 101BF and HD sheeting started at 351BU. Bolt slots were narrowed considerably at some point in 2021 between EU and EW suffixes, presenting mounting issues for many trailers.

After more than 70 years of issuance, Tractor (TR) plates were abolished in 2019. In the final two decades there was an average of just 124 tractors registered annually. Almost all of those registrants went plate-less after this point due to revised vehicle classifications -- Infrastructure and Agricultural Equipment require no plates. Tractor plates were only made with original sheeting, blue outline bison and embossed sticker boxes.
